The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) provides official annual crime reports of all counties within the state. In 2019, Indian River County was reported to have experienced a total number of 2,447 crimes. This includes 352 violent crimes and 2,095 property crimes. The violent crimes include six murders, 36 rapes, 31 robberies, and 279 aggravated assaults. The property crimes include 248 burglaries, 1,708 larcenies, and 139 motor vehicle thefts.

When compared with the 2018 crime statistics, the county’s crime rate declined by 12%. Murder, rape, and robbery declined by 33%, 18%, and 38% respectively, while burglary and larceny also experienced a 37% and 9% respective drop. During the same period, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft increased by 19% and 17% respectively.

Indian River County courts are part of the 19th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
