How do I get Walton County Criminal Records
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is the state’s repository for criminal information. It stores, maintains, and disseminates criminal records in the state. The department’s Division of Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) keeps all criminal records and provides official background reports upon request for a fee of $24.00. All criminal records in the state are maintained via fingerprints.
The background checks contain basic personal information but focus more on criminal history information, including warrants, court dispositions, police/arrest records, etc. The information that shows up in these background checks is information from the Department of Corrections and law enforcement officials statewide. There are two correctional facilities in Walton County- The Walton County Jail and the Walton Correctional Institution (WCI). The County jail is run by the Sheriff’s Department and the WCI is run by the Department of Corrections.
To visit inmates at a facility, the visitors have to register in advance and receive approval. Only three visitors or less are allowed at a time. An approved adult must accompany individuals younger than 18 years with valid identification. All visitation sessions must not be more than 15 minutes. The County jail has two jail visitation systems:

The visitation hours for both systems are the same, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 AM, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 PM, and 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

Walton County Vital Records
Vital records are documentation of life events like births, deaths, marriage, and divorces. The Florida Department of Health (FDH) is responsible for maintaining vital records in Florida and makes certified copies available for a fee. Copies of certain vital records are available to eligible individuals but all records can be requested in person, by mail, or online. Where and how to get Divorce records
The FDH maintains divorce certificates from June 1927. The certificates carry basic information on the divorce, and they only serve as evidence that it occurred. The actual judgment or decrees may be obtained directly from the county. Request copies of a divorce record by completing and submitting the Application for divorce records form. Completed forms must be accompanied by the complete payment and copies of valid photo IDs. Copies of records cost $5 each for the first year searched and $2 for each additional year searched. A certified record copy is included in this. Additional copies of a record cost $4 each.

Where and How To Get Birth and Death Records
The FDH maintains death records from 1877 and birth records from 1865. In Florida, birth records are restricted for 100 years and death records for 50 years after the events have occurred. Restricted records are only accessible to authorized people. People authorized to obtain confidential birth records are:
- The subject of the record of legal age
- Parents (must be named on the record)
- Legal guardians with evidence
- Authorized representatives of any of the individuals listed above
- Individuals authorized by court order.
Confidential death records can only be obtained by;
- The deceased’s spouse

Submit completed birth or death request forms along with valid photo identification and complete payment when requesting these records. Birth records cost $9 each and death records cost $5 each, for the first year searched. If the year is unknown there is a $2 for each additional year searched. A certified copy of the located record is included in this. Additional copies of records cost $4 each.

Where and How to get Marriage records
The FDH has marriage records from June 1927 to date. If the marriage is less than 60 days old or prior to 1927, contact the Clerk of Circuit Court in Walton County.
Certificates are issued as abstracts of the information on the marriage licenses and are acceptable as evidence that the marriages are valid. Requesters must fill and submit the Application for Marriage Certificates form, along with copies of valid IDs and complete payment. Certified copies of marriage certificates cost $5 each for the first year searched and each additional year searched costs $2. A certified copy is of the located record will be issued. Each additional copy of a record costs $4.
