What are Miami Beach Public Records?

As provided under the Florida Sunshine Law, Miami Beach public records are documents, letters, books, maps, data processing software, and other materials made or received in accordance with law or the transaction of official business. However, some records may be restricted from disclosure by law or an existing court order. Some examples of restricted records include information revealing the substance of a confession until the final disposition, records that reveal the identity of some crime victims, and all other records exempt by law.

Miami Beach Crime Statistics

The Miami Beach Police Department maintains records of crimes committed in the city. In 2019, the city recorded 852 violent crimes and 6,977 property crimes. These include 6 murders, 92 rape incidents, and 284 robberies. The most common violent crime was aggravated assault, with 470 reported incidents. Larceny theft was the most commonly recorded property crime with 5,894 recorded cases. Other recorded property crimes were 717 burglaries and 366 reported cases of auto theft. In comparison with 2018, violent crime reduced by 2% while property crime increased by 0.4%.

Are Miami Beach Criminal Records Public?

Miami Beach criminal records are public records that may be accessed by any interested member of the public. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) provides public access to criminal history information for residents of Florida. Interested persons may find Miami Beach records through the instant search, the certified/non-certified, or the ORI search. Instant search results are available immediately but are not certified. Requesters must pay a $24 fee through debit or credit card and a $1 card processing fee.

The certified/non-certified search requires the interested party to provide demographic information to the FDLE. Results may be notarized and certified and will be returned to the address provided by the requester. Processing time for certified requests is 6-7 business days, while non-certified records have a 5-day processing timeframe. Each request costs $24 to be paid by credit or debit card.

To carry out an ORI search, the interested person must provide an ORI number. Results are sent directly to an authorized person. Costs differ based on the agency, statute, or the requesting entity.

Miami Beach police reports and arrest records are available through the Miami Beach Police Department. Interested persons may request records in person, by mail, over the phone, or by email. How to Find Sex Offender Information in Miami Beach

Residents may find Miami Beach sex offenders using the Miami-Dade County Sexual Offender & Predator Search. Interested persons may find sex offenders and predators near an office or school by providing an address, intersection, school name, or landmark in the search box. Specific offenders may be found by providing the name of the offender or the address.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement maintains a statewide Sexual Offender and Predator Search portal with information on registered sex offenders in the state. How Do I Visit an inmate in Miami Beach Jail?

Inmates at the Miami Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center may receive visitors in person or through video visitation. Inmates may be housed at the Metro West Detention Center, Pre-Trial Detention Center, or the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre.

Miami Beach inmates may receive visits from family, friends, attorneys, and other professionals, subject to different visitation rules. Attorneys and professionals must register for remote visits by completing the Attorney Application for Remote Video Visitation or Professional Visitor Application for Remote Video Visitation forms. The completed form should be sent to mdcrintroletter@miamidade.gov, after which the professional should register on the GTL platform. Attorneys or professionals may also visit inmates on-site.

A dissolution of marriage certificate is available via the Florida Department of Health as proper evidence of a divorce. The department provides access to records dating back to June 6, 1927. Any member of the public may request divorce records in person or through the mail. The search fee for one calendar year and a certified copy is $5. Additional certified copies cost $4 each. If the divorce year is unknown, a $2 fee is charged for each year searched. Interested persons also pay a rush service fee of $10.

Where and How to Find Miami Beach Birth Records

Miami Beach birth records are restricted for 100 years after the record is created. In that period, only the registrant, parents listed on the record, registrant’s legal guardian, legal representatives of any of those mentioned, and a person with a valid court order may access the records. An interested person must present a valid photo ID when requesting a certificate. Eligible persons may complete an Affidavit to Release Birth Certificate authorizing another person to obtain the certificate.

Miami Beach death records showing the cause of death and social security number are unavailable to the public for 50 years. However, any person over 18 may obtain death records that do not show the cause of death and have a part of the social security number redacted.

Non-redacted records are available to a spouse or parent of the deceased, adult children, grandchildren, or siblings, anyone that can demonstrate a tangible interest in the record, a legal representative of an authorized person, or a person with a court order. Eligible persons may apply for Miami Beach death certificates in person at the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the following address:
