The Port St. Lucie Police Department publishes annual reports of city-wide index crimes. According to the 2018 report, the city's index crimes were at an all-time low with a citywide total of 2,040 reported incidents in the year. Larceny-theft remained the most common crime with 1, 543 reported incidents, constituting 75% of the total reported crimes. Burglary and aggravated assault followed with 251 and 125 reported incidents respectively, making aggravated assault the most recurring of all the violent crimes. Motor vehicle theft, robbery, and rape came in at fourth, fifth and sixth positions with 55, 36 and 25 reports respectively, while arson and homicide remained the least popular crimes with only 5 reported incidents between them.

How To Get Criminal Records
The St Lucie County Sheriff's Office processes requests for county-based name and fingerprint background checks. Requests for either service can only be made in person at the Sheriff's Office. Before going to make a query, requesters are advised to call ahead or schedule an appointment online. On the scheduled date, the requesting party will be required to provide a government-issued ID and the name of the subject and a payment of $10 for a name-based search, or any of the applicable fingerprinting fees.

Vital Records
The Florida Vital Statistics Office is the central repository of statewide records of vital records for the state of Florida. As such records of deaths, births, marriages and marriage dissolutions that occurred in the City of Port St. Lucie can be obtained from the state office. However, these records can also be obtained at the county level from the office of the St. Lucie County Clerk of Courts or the St. Lucie County Vital Statistics Office.
Where and How to Get Divorce Records
Port St. Lucie divorce records are maintained by St Lucie County Clerk of the Circuit Court and issued to interested persons upon request. To obtain divorce records, requestors may use the Official Records Tool of the Clerk's office which allows members of the public to search official county records for court records including divorce decrees. Searches should be conducted using the divorcee's name, the case file number or the date the divorce was granted.

Where and How to Get Marriage Records
Records of marriages licensed in the city of Port St. Lucie are available in the Office of the St. Lucie County Clerk of Courts. These records can be viewed online using the Clerks Official Records Tool or ordered on the Clerk's Office Order System. Both methods require information about the spouses including their names, the date and the place of the marriage and the issuing county of the marriage license.

Where and How to Get Birth and Death Records
The Florida Vital Statistics Office processes requests for records of birth and death that occurred in the City of Port St. Lucie. In compliance with state laws birth records and death records are confidential until after 100 years and 50 years respectively.
In light of this, birth and death records are restricted to the registrant, the registrants or decedent's parents, legal guardians, children or siblings, legal representatives, and legally authorized persons.
Interested and eligible persons may obtain these records by completing an Affidavit to Release a Birth Certificate or Affidavit to Release Death Certificate. Completed forms should be notarized and sent along with a fee of $9(for birth records) or $4(for death records) to:
