Crime Numbers
Crime statistics for all counties in the state of Florida are collated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The agency’s most recent crime data for Citrus County are for 2018. In that period, Citrus County recorded 345 violent crimes and 2,104 property crimes. Compared to 2014 crime figures for the county, these represent 22.1% and 11.7% dip in violent crime rate and property crime rate respectively.
A breakdown of 2018 crime figures shows that the county recorded 2 homicides, 19 rapes, 42 robberies, 282 aggravated assaults, 369 burglaries, 1,505 larcenies, and 230 motor vehicle thefts.
The most recent five-year crime trend for the county indicates that incidents of all Part I crimes fell between 2014 and 2018 except for motor vehicle theft which rose by 58.6%. The rates of homicide, rape, aggravated assaults, and robbery declined by 50%, 62%, 16.8%, and 16% respectively. Burglary (30.1%) and larceny (11.9%) rates also fell in the period.
Criminal Records
The Division of Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) of the FDLE is the central repository of criminal history information in the state of Florida. The Division provides Citrus County criminal history information at the cost of $24 per record. Requests for criminal history records are accepted by regular mail and online. The public has the option to make an instant criminal history search online. While the result of this check is not certified, it also costs $24, a fee payable by credit/debit card. There an additional $1 processing fee for the payment.
Alternatively, make an online request through the FDLE's SHIELD system by entering the subject's demographic information along with other required details. Results are returned by mail and can be certified if required. To request a criminal history check by mail, complete and mail the request form to:

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Records Unit provides incident reports and crash reports for the county. Requests are accepted in person, by mail, fax, or email. Court Records
Citrus County courts are part of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida. These courts include a Circuit Court and County Court. The Circuit Court handles all felony cases and civil disputes involving more than $15,000 while the County Court, as the lower court, handles misdemeanors and civil disputes involving $15,000 or less. The Citrus County Clerk of the Circuit Court maintains all court records in the county. These records are available for review online at the Clerk’s Office website. Limited access is granted to anonymous users on the site while registered users can access all the available information on case files in the database. Vital Records
Divorce records from June 6, 1927 to the present for Citrus County are provided by the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Florida Department of Health. The Bureau charges $5 for each certified copy and $4 for each additional copy ordered at the same time. When the requester is uncertain of the date of the divorce, the request must include payment for an additional search fee of $2. To request a copy of this record, complete the Application for Dissolution of Marriage, attach a check or money order for the fee, and submit it by mail to:

Make sure to include a photocopy of a valid ID with the application. There is an option to expedite a request for an extra cost of $10 per order. When making an expedited request, mark the envelope as “RUSH” and include the applicable fee on the check or money order. Note that the copy provided by the Bureau is an abstract report of the entire judgment of dissolution of marriage. Contact the Citrus County Clerk of Court when the full judgment is required.
Citrus County marriage, birth, and death certificates are also issued through the Bureau of Vital Statistics. The Bureau has marriage records from June 6, 1927 to the present. For older marriage records, contact the Citrus County Clerk of Court at the address provided above.
To request a certified copy of a marriage record from the Bureau, download and complete the application form DH261. Mail the completed form along with a check or money order for the fee and a copy of a valid ID to the State Office of Vital Statistics at the address above. A certified copy of a marriage record costs $5.
Requests for Citrus County birth and death records can be made at the local office of the Florida Department of Health in the county. This local office has birth records from 1930 to the present and death records from 2009 to the present. To request older copies of these vital records, contact the State Office of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville at the address above.
Requests at the local office are accepted by mail and in person. The first certified copy of birth record costs $15 while there is a $10 fee for each additional copy in the same order. Vital Statistics charges $13 for each death record. To request for these vital records, complete a birth or death application form and take along to the office or send it by mail to:

Are Property Records Open to the Public in Citrus County
The Florida Sunshine Law grants right of access to all government-generated records, including property records. County residents and non-residents may request, view, and obtain copies of Citrus County property records in line with the Sunshine Law. Also, public members must submit a request for property records to the custodian office responsible for maintaining and issuing the public documents.

Property records in Citrus County are under the supervision of the Citrus County Property Appraiser. The Property Appraiser's Office provides record seekers with real estate information, such as property ownership, building sketches, parcel ownership maps, assessment roll data, and other information on properties within Citrus County. In addition, it provides access to these documents via online and offline requests to the Property Appraiser's Office.
